Capacity-building Workshop at Hotel Dr Oriental

In line with the StartupIndia’s ASCEND (Accelerating Startup Calibre and Entrepreneurial Drive) programme, department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with StartupIndia, department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) organised capacity-building workshop at Hotel Dr Oriental on Wednesday.
It may be noted that Startup India, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) will be organising a series of startup workshops under the program ‘ASCEND’ (Accelerating Startup Calibre and Entrepreneurial Drive) for entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and students from the north-eastern region.
With a vision to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset, ASCEND workshops have been organised in all eight states of the Northeast, including Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.
These capacity-building workshops were aimed to provide access to apt guidance, requisite infrastructure, and a thriving network of ecosystem enablers such as mentors and academia for developing a robust startup ecosystem.
Delivering special address at the programme, Finance Secretary, V Kezo highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and gave an overview on Northeast ecosystem and the factors responsible for promoting entrepreneurship in the state.
He said that despite state government promoting entrepreneurship by sanctioning fund not much thought have been put in to benefit entrepreneurs in the state.
Kezo further said that state government has decided to provide a corpus fund of Rs. 60 crore to promote entrepreneurship in the state. He said that the funds will be provided in the form of providing subsidies and low interest rates.
Speaking on State policy incentives to aspiring and growth stage entrepreneurs, Commissioner and Secretary, department of Industries and Commerce and Startup India, Nodal Officer, Nagaland, Kekhrievor Kevichusa said that going forward to build a state economy needed good policies and that Nagaland was in need of it.
He said that implementing the startup policies required commitment from the government to support startups in the state.
Kevichusa, however said the startup policy launched in 2019 in the state had undergone some revision keeping in mind some assurance that were not feasible or some required changes based on current need and situations.
At the programme, The Startup India: Benefits and Incentives was presented by the Startup India team.
Earlier, director of Industries and Commerce Department, Vitsutho Nyuthe launched the Updated Startup Nagaland Portal.
The prizes for Innovative Challenge organised by YouthNet Incubation Centre (YIC) and funded under Nagaland Startup Initiative were also distributed.
